OVERVIEW OF OUR OUTSTANDING REPAIR SERVICES

To give you some insights on how we work on our repairs, below are the common damages and Kite N’ Surf’s process to restore them.

KITE BLADDER VALVE REPAIR

One of the most common causes of headaches for kiteboarders is kite bladder leaks. When you have little knowledge about kitesurf repair, dealing with this problem can be extremely challenging.

It’s a bit tricky to do valve repairs. No matter where they are left, each is heated at the same rate. The same amount of heat can build up while they’re in the car, in a kite bag, or even on the beach. It then loses its adhesive properties and starts to detach from the kite bladder. Kites older than 5 years tend to have this issue quite often.

In some cases, the valves slowly change color as they age. If you notice this, your valves are on the verge of breaking down. In this situation, the kite bladders are best replaced as a set.

During the summer, leaking valves are common issues. If possible, do not leave your kiting gears under direct sunlight. Your kite’s valves and tubes can be severely damaged by this.

As soon as the kite loses some air, it becomes more susceptible to flipping, which eventually affects steering, resulting in accidents if left unattended.

How To Find The Leak in your Kite

There are different techniques to find a leak in a kite and this helps us to assist you better, these tips will help you find the leak quickly and easily. If you want to trace where the leak is coming from, what you need to do is to pump the kite really hard and then

place it in a large pool of water, drowning it. If there’s indeed a leak, a strut of the kite will emit little air bubbles while submerged underwater.

Obviously, not everybody has access to water. In that case, find out which strut starts to go soft first by closing the strut clamp. More likely, this is where the leak is.

CANOPY STITCHING

The Kite Canopy is either patched or stitched using a new kite canopy repair kit. For the leading edge, we use high-quality Dacron Tape depending on the severity of the damage supplied to us by Doc Tuba and Cabrinha. The thread used when stitching is a UV-resistant thread – similar to what manufacturers used. The stitch is also patterned the same as the existing on the kite and sail tape is used to align the seams.

Sail tape is also an option for temporary fixes or the cut is very small that is less than 0.5 cm.

 LEADING EDGE STITCHING

Kite Leading stitching is more complicated than Kite Canopy for the simple reason – any repair on the kite leading requires the opening of the main stitching as it can’t be fixed while the bladder is inside.

After opening the leading edge, the damage is fixed using dacron tape on both sides. Once done, we stitched back again the leading edge.

Tip to remember: In case you see the stitch in the leading edge is loose, try to avoid using it unless fixed as this may result in damage to the bladder inside.
